NEW DELHI: Three days after the brutal murder of 52-year-old Kiran Kapoor inside her State Bank Nagar residence in Paschim Vihar, police said they were working on certain leads pointing to the involvement of someone known to Kiran.
"We are looking into various statements collected from her family members, friends and acquaintances. We are checking every detail about their movement that evening.
As of now, we have found certain discrepancies in their statements. We have also been able to talk to Kiran's daughter Sakshi, who is an eyewitness,'' said Sharad Aggarwal, DCP (west).
Meanwhile, sources in the Pashim Vihar police station say they have gathered leads which establish that the assailants knew their way inside the house. "After entering, they immediately went to Kiran's bedroom knowing that all the valuables would be kept in her almirahs. This shows that at least one of the two assailants had completed a recce of the house,'' said the source.
According to the family members of the deceased, the murder took place around 8.45pm on Thursday. At that time Kiran was on the ground floor of the two-storey building along with her 24-year-old daughter Sakshi who is a teacher at a local playschool. Her husband, Ashok Kapoor (54), a chartered accountant, and son Ashish (26), who works with an MNC, were away at work.
According to the police, Sakshi has said that she failed to see the faces of the accused.
Sandeep Dhall, nephew of the deceased and one of the first to reach the site, told Times City that two bedrooms one of which belonged to the elderly couple were completely ransacked. "It was a sight that will always haunt me. The bedsheet was filled with blood. The three almirahs were broken into and belongings strewn around,'' Dhall said.
