NEW DELHI: The process of claiming bodies at Safdarjung Hospital turned ugly when three families claimed the bodies of two children killed in the blast. Dilbaq Singh's family was one of the claimants and said it did not want a joint cremation as suggested by the police."We want to take the body back to our family in Jhajjar," Singh said. He is also claiming the body of a four-year-old girl as that of another member of the family.
But Apurba Kumar Sharma from Assam believes it to be his niece Upamani. Sharma has lost four family members in the terror attack. "It has been a traumatic experience for us and on top of that, we have to fight for the bodies of our relatives," Singh said. Children have been the worst sufferers as the blasts left a trail of death and devastation. One-year-old Sumit is fighting for his life at Safdarjung Hospital, where his parents have also been admitted. Two other children aged 10 and 12 are also facing an uncertain future at the same hospital. "Their father Rajiv Nigam (of Faridabad) has succumbed to his burns and his wife is in a critical condition with 80% burns. The children too have suffered 40% burns, but are out of danger. God should let their mother live for their sake," a sobbing Kamal, Rajiv's brother-in-law, said.
