CM, Manish Sisodia among scores to pay last respects to Ram Jethmalani

NEW DELHI: Reputed lawyer and former union minister Ram Jethmalani passed away at his official residence at 7:45am on Sunday. He was 95, and was not keeping well for the past few months. His funeral at Lodhi Crematorium was attended by prominent politicians, lawyers, family members and friends. Also, there was a large gathering with people from all walks of life visiting the crematorium to pay tribute to the distinguished lawyer.
Union law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Supreme Court judge Justice BR Gavai, former Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and former apex court judges Swatanter Kumar and Kurian Joseph also paid tribute to the noted jurist.Among the politicians present were Sharad Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Simranjit Singh Mann. Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia were among the last few people to leave the crematorium.
Ram Jethmalani’s son Mahesh Jethmalani, a senior advocate himself, lit the funeral pyre at 5:25pm. The ex-minister’s daughter and daughter-in-law were present. Supreme Court judge Justice DY Chandrachud paid floral tribute to the noted lawyer at his residence.
Over Ram Jethmalani’s death, a senior advocate of the Supreme Court, Sanjay Hegde, said: "If there is a heaven for lawyers, it will get interesting from now on."
“Ram Jethmalani was the light of Indian judiciary and father of social justice of India. He was not only an eminent lawyer, but also a distinguished teacher of law, human rights activist, jurist, veteran parliamentarian and a distinguished minister. He always led from the front, fighting for the socially and economically marginalised sections of the Indian society. He was more than a father to me since my university days as a student of law,” said K Mahesh, an IAS officer and the former private secretary to Jethmalani.
