NEW DELHI: In another two years, there will be no landfill sites in Delhi to dump the city’s garbage.
With the Delhi Municipal Corporation still searching for land for a new landfill site, a crisis seems to be emerging.
Delhi is at present producing 6,500 tonnes of garbage daily. In the next five months garbage collection will increase by 1,000 tonnes.

Subir Saha, dean and head of the department of housing at the School of Planning and Architecture, said his institute had conducted a survey in which these startling facts were revealed.
He cited them at a seminar on ‘Solid waste management in the national capital region’. The seminar was organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and MCD.
Saha said the city’s garbage had so far exhausted 16 landfill sites. ‘‘The one at Okhla has a life expectancy of one year while the Bhalswa landfill site has an expected life of six months to one year,’’ Saha said.
