GHAZIABAD: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has sought clarifications from the UP police in the rape and suicide case of teenager Deeksha Verma. The commission has written to UP DGP Karamveer Singh questioning the police action.
On January 2 at Ram Vihar in Loni, 15-year-old Deeksha Verma committed suicide. Her family members allege that she took the extreme as she could not bear the abuses and threats from her alleged rapists.
"It seeks to know why the police took so long to procure the medical report of the victim and why dragged its feet in arresting the two accused.
The police has also been asked why the girl's statement was not recorded even after the girl was allegedly gangraped,'' said a source.
According to Pawan Verma, his daughter's statement was not even recorded under CRPC section 164. "Even in the FIR, Deeksha was forced to drop the names of the two other accused at the insistence of the policemen,'' said Pawan. After the release of the accused on bail, he allegedly came to her house with his father.
