CBI coordinates deportation of three red notice fugitives from India to Malaysia

NEW DELHI: In a significant display of international law enforcement synergy, CBI — acting as India’s Interpol wing — coordinated the deportation of three Red Notice fugitives to Malaysia on January 27. The subjects, who were intercepted in Mumbai following their arrival from the United Kingdom, were handed over to Malaysian authorities through a high-security, tactical operation.

The subjects, identified as Sridharan Subramaniam, Pratifkumar Selvaraj, and Navindren Raj Cumarason, were wanted by Malaysian authorities for their alleged involvement in organized criminal activities. According to officials, the trio is accused of acting of committing serious offenses aimed at securing material benefit, power, and illicit influence.


The operation began when the individuals, traveling from the United Kingdom, were intercepted and denied entry by immigration authorities at Mumbai International Airport.

Following this denial of entry, NCB–Kuala Lumpur formally reached out to CBI — the Nodal agency for Interpol in India — to leverage established Interpol cooperation mechanisms for their return.

In response to the formal request, an specialized escort team from the Royal Malaysia Police arrived in Mumbai on January 25, to take custody of the fugitives. The subsequent transfer was described as a smooth and highly coordinated effort, made possible through the direct facilitation of the CBI and other Indian agencies.

"This successful repatriation not only highlights the robust bilateral law enforcement relationship between India and Malaysia but also underscores the critical role of Interpol Red Notices as a global tool for locating and securing fugitives across borders. By effectively closing the gap for transnational criminals, this operation reaffirms both nations' commitment to upholding international legal standards and ensuring that wanted individuals face judicial proceedings in their home jurisdictions," an official said.
