CBI arrests court reader in bribery case
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a court reader posted with an additional sessions judge at Tis Hazari Courts for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe to facilitate a bail application, officials said on Thursday.
According to the agency, the accused, identified as Sanjeev Sadana, Reader to the ASJ-02 court, was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting Rs 20,000 from a complainant. The amount was part payment of an alleged bribe of Rs 30,000 demanded to help secure the allowance of a bail plea filed on behalf of the complainant’s client.
A case was registered on Thursday following a complaint, after which the CBI laid a trap the same day. During the operation, the accused was apprehended while allegedly demanding and accepting the money, officials said.
Sadana was taken into custody following the trap, and further legal proceedings are underway.
Instances of corruption or any demands for bribes by public officials can be lodged at the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch office in Delhi or through its designated helpline numbers, officials said.
