Two other members of the gang, Vivek Tehlyan and Sudhir Rathi, are still at large, police said.
"The two (Sandeep and Aditya) have been involved in auto lifting cases in Najafgarh and Vasant Kunj in Delhi. Rathi was even caught by Vasant Kunj police. During interrogation, Sandeep has also confessed that he was involved in a few auto lifting cases a year ago," said a senior police officer.
Sandeep was posted as a constable at Linepaar police station in Bahadurgarh. He had managed to give the
slip after several thefts but on Friday, he tried his hand on a Maruti Alto that was leaving the company’s depot in Gurgaon.
The FIR lodged at Palam Vihar police station on Friday night said the car was making its way to a showroom when the constable "in uniform" approached the driver, Satish, and snatched the key. He then took away Rs 500 and a can containing six litres of petrol. Sandeep also asked the driver to take the car to Punjabi Bagh, the FIR added.
