Car jumps signal, drags traffic cop for 100m near GTB Hospital; driver arrested
New Delhi: A 48-year-old traffic assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was injured after a car allegedly jumped a red light and struck him near Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in northeast Delhi. The impact flung the officer onto the bonnet, where he was dragged for nearly 100 metres before the driver fled the scene, police said.The driver has been arrested in connection with the incident.The injured officer, Vikas Kumar, posted in the Shahdara traffic circle, was deployed as a zonal officer at the GTB Hospital intersection from 3 pm to 11 pm. According to the FIR, the incident occurred around 4.50 pm on April 21, when Kumar and head constable Gaurav Tyagi were checking vehicles near Gate No. 7 of the hospital.“A black car jumped the red light. Tyagi first signalled the driver to stop, but the vehicle accelerated. Kumar then stepped forward and signalled again, forcing the car to slow briefly before the driver suddenly sped up, hitting him,” police said.The impact threw Kumar onto the bonnet. In an attempt to save himself, he held on to the car’s windscreen wipers. Despite repeated warnings, the driver continued driving erratically for nearly 100 metres before the wipers snapped, flinging Kumar onto the road. The driver fled the scene.Kumar suffered injuries and was rushed to hospital.A case was registered at GTB Enclave police station.
