According to officials, the Canadian citizen landed at the Delhi airport around 2am on Monday and was intercepted based on suspicion.

Customs officials later called officials from the Delhi forest and wildlife department to identify the species. He allegedly bought the skull from Thailand, said a forest official.

"The man did not possess the mandatory permission required to carry wildlife items. Customs have been informed to initiate action as per Wildlife Protection Act as crocodiles are protected species under it. We will conduct further lab tests to identify the sub-species," said Rajesh Tandon, deputy forest range officer (west).
