NEW DELHI: With the Delhi University Teachers' Union poll scheduled for today, election campaign came to an end on Wednesday. The polling will take place at the Arts Faculty building today from 10 am to 5 pm.

new delhi: with the delhi university teachers' union poll scheduled for today, election campaign came to an end on wednesday. the polling will take place at the arts faculty building today from 10 am to 5 pm. academics for action and development candidate v k agarwal, a teacher with motilal nehru college, democratic teachers' front candidate shaswati majumdar of the department of romanic and germanic studies and n k gautam of national democratic teachers' front from rajdhani college are involved in a triangular contest for the post of duta president.

majumdar has been the duta secretary from 1995-97. agarwal has twice been an academic council member and was an executive council member. this year's campaign has been eventful with a faction of intec withdrawing support from agarwal early this week. it was promptly followed by a delhi pradesh congress committee statement reiterating congress support to agarwal. the ndtf has, meanwhile, denied ``rumours'' about gautam's withdrawal of candidature. the other presidential contestant is the independent candidate from shivaji college, g n singhal. as many as 20 nominations have been received for the duta executive. the 15 candidates being supported by various parties are: anuradha anand, ashwini shankar and r s dahiya, supported by intec; barkatullah khan, mukti sanyal, and sanjaya kumar bohidar, supported by dtf; m r chhikara, n k chadha and sadhna sharma, supported by aad; mukesh agarwal, pradumn kumar, and s n gupta of the ndtf. the communist party of india has fielded one candidate, ali javed, while five others are contesting the elections as independents.
