NEW DELHI: When cops raided Rose Garden in Safdarjung Enclave to arrest a police inspector who had been harassing couples, little did they know that the ‘cop’ would turn out to be the son of a well-known businessman in south Delhi who roams around in the gardens of Delhi in the afternoons and extorts money from couples as a pastime.
The accused, Kamal Kumar (25), apparently a gym enthusiast, has been arrested, a senior police officer said.

Kumar allegedly told cops that he had extorted a huge amount of money from numerous couples.
The matter came to light on Tuesday when a couple from Hauz Khas landed up at the Safdarjung police station complaining that they were harassed by a cop from the police station who took away their money and valuables, threatening to ‘expose’ them, while they were spending time at the nearby Rose Garden.
The accused had posed as an inspector while approaching the couple. He threatened the couple that he would inform their parents and have them arrested for indulging in “obscene acts” in a public place. He made away with cash worth around Rs 4,000 from the boy and asked him to leave first. After the boy left and waited outside the park, the accused threatened the girl and asked her to hand over her rings. The couple then approached the cops for help.
On Wednesday, a trap was laid and policemen in plain clothes caught the accused red handed after the couple identified them. A source said Kumar used to target several parks, Rose Garden being his favorite as it was close to his house.
