Businessman robbed of 97 lakh at gunpoint, hunt on for two men
New Delhi: A businessman dealing in copper scrap trade was robbed at gunpoint in northeast Delhi's Brijpuri area on Feb 15 by two unidentified men on a black scooty, who fled with a bag containing approximately Rs 97 lakh in cash, police said on Friday. The victim, a resident of Karawal Nagar, was returning to his office in Mustafabad after collecting money from Old Delhi when the incident occurred."As he was passing through Brijpuri, two men riding a scooty intercepted him, brandished a firearm, and snatched his bag full of cash before escaping. The victim immediately reported the matter to the police," said a senior police officer.Following the complaint, Dayalpur police station registered a case under sections 309 (robbery) and 311 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Multiple teams were formed to investigate the robbery.According to police, the assailants could have had prior knowledge of the victim's movements and the large sum of cash he was carrying. The fact that the robbery was executed swiftly suggests that the accused may have been tracking the businessman, police said."The timing and execution indicate that the robbers were well-prepared. We are examining CCTV footage from the area and tracking possible escape routes used by the accused," the officer added.
