NEW DELHI: It''s bizarre, but true. Schools buses ferrying children are blatantly using domestic LPG cylinders and not the government-approved LPG kits. Using domestic LPG in vehicles is illegal, and dangerous.
A senior transport department official admitted: "We have come across other complaints as well. These vans stuff children like sardines in a can.
In case of an accident, these vehicles are just waiting to blow up."
"It is because of the use of these unauthorised cylinders that the auto-LPG could not take off as a fuel," said Anumita Roy Chowdhury, co-ordinator of the ''right to clean air'' campaign of the Centre for Science and Environment.
There are more than 19 auto-LPG outlets in the city, and it costs about Rs 20 a litre.
