Bricks, blood, and bravery: Delhi bizman gets police salute after taking on men harassing women
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police felicitated a businessman who was brutally assaulted by four men on Monday in Mehrauli after he objected to their harassment of women.
Police also recorded statements of three women who confirmed that they were being harassed by the accused.
DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan visited the house of the victim, Mukesh Singh, and felicitated him with a memento and a certificate for stopping the accused from harassing those women.
"Despite being outnumbered and fully aware of the serious personal risk involved, Mukesh fearlessly confronted the offenders and stood firmly against their unlawful and indecent actions," the DCP said.
Speaking to the media, Mukesh said the incident occurred around 5am on Monday while he was returning from a wedding function in Rohini. "I stopped at a tea stall and saw them speaking inappropriately to a girl. I just told them it was not right to talk to girls that way and that what they were saying was wrong. I only said this, then one of them came from behind and hit me. I don't remember clearly what happened after that," he said.
Police said they recorded the statements of the victims, and Section 79 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of BNS was added to the case.
His brother, Rinku, told TOI that Mukesh received 10 stitches on his head and suffered a fractured bone near his eye after being attacked with bricks. Family members said doctors informed them that his recovery was expected to take several months. "His face is swollen and there is pain all over the body. We don't know who the attackers were," Rinku said.
Mukesh lives with his wife and two kids. A case was registered under sections of BNS.
A senior police officer said that all the attackers were caught. They were identified as Vishal Rawat, Jatin (20), Sonu (25), and Vivek (20).

Well done ... a very severe punishment should be given to these anti social elements... The police should also watch them carefully as they might come back to take revenge ... They should be paraded all over and should be banned from entering the city again ... I mean after the jail termRead allPost comment
