NEW DELHI: A woman national-level boxer helped the crime branch and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to unearth a fake appointment racket being run for the past two years. Jaswant Singh (42), Baljeet Singh (59) and Parvinder Singh (36) from Punjab, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir were arrested from Rohini in northwest Delhi on Saturday, police said.

They used to cheat unemployed youth by promising to get them recruited in CISF.
Jaswant worked as a part-time driver with CISF; Baljeet had served in BSF; and Parvinder is a sociologist. “They travelled in a white Gypsy with wireless sets and fake ID cards, and also wore the CISF uniform. They had even set up a fake CISF website to gain confidence of their victims, who were charged Rs 1-2 lakh each,” said joint CP (EOW) Sandeep Goel. They usually picked up victims while travelling on trains.
The trio came under the scanner of the economic offences wing after a complaint was filed by the boxer from Chandigarh, who claimed she was induced to pay Rs 1 lakh in exchange for direct recruitment in the force under the sports quota. She was also shown the result on a fake website, www.cisfrecruitment.in.
“She was handed a fake appointment letter and told to join CISF’s national training centre in Hyderabad. When she went to Hyderabad, she realized she had bee duped,” the officer said. She then approached the CISF headquarters in Delhi, which referred her to EOW of Delhi Police. The trio had allegedly duped at least six people this year and 11 victims in 2012. They had also accepted a token amount for processing 23 more “applications” and chosen 12 more targets.
The victim was asked to pay money to the accused at the New Delhi railway station. The CCTV footage at the waiting room was analysed. The three men could be clearly seen with wireless sets in their hands; one person was walking with the help of a stick. This as well as a quick follow up on the detail of the Gypsy and cellphones used in the crime established their identity. The accused had been changing base and their phone numbers frequently. Jaswant and Baljeet were arrested from Sector 24 in Rohini, while Parvinder was nabbed at their instance.
