BJP highlights 24 unfulfilled commitments as AAP marks two-year tenure in MCD

New Delhi: With Aam Aadmi Party set to mark two years at the helm of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Saturday, BJP claimed that Delhiites had voted for AAP to the civic body with high hopes but were feeling disappointed and betrayed after two years.Highlighting what it called "24 unfulfilled commitments and shortcomings" on Friday, BJP said various civic issues remained unaddressed. Besides the "unsuccessful attempts to reduce the landfill heights" and "inadequate drain maintenance", BJP said AAP hadn't made progress either in road infrastructure, drainage improvements and the construction of a paunch waste facility at the abattoir in Ghazipur.Addressing a press conference, leader of Opposition in MCD and former mayor Raja Iqbal Singh said, "Despite being in power for two years, AAP failed to remove Delhi's garbage mountains, and trash is visible everywhere in the city. The roads are riddled with potholes, and the drains and sewer systems are in disrepair. During this period, we saw incidents of hospital ceilings and walls collapsing, a shortage of doctors in corporation-run hospitals and even an inadequate supply of medicines, making it difficult for needy people to access healthcare facilities."Singh also criticised AAP for delaying the formation of the standing committee. "At least 235 development projects related to Delhi's growth are stalled due to the non-formation of the standing committee. Only Rs 25 lakh is being released to the councillors annually, that too in instalments, for the development of wards. This has made it difficult for councillors to do any concrete work. In comparison, the MLAs got Rs 15 crore for use in their constituencies."Singh pointed out that payment of salaries to municipal employees was being delayed. "The mayor reallocated Rs 500 crore from the maintenance funds of various depts, including the horticulture and sanitation dept last year. This halted maintenance of parks and streets. The lives of street vendors have also become miserable because no concrete work has been done to form permanent town vending committees," said LOP. Reacting to the allegations, AAP said in a statement, "BJP systematically ruined MCD over the past 15 years and reduced it to a state of chaos and neglect. It turned the city into a garbage dump, leaving it unclean and mismanaged. Today, we stand proud because we have reversed the damage and transformed Delhi into a shining example of progress and governance. We are delivering on our promises — ensuring timely salaries to all MCD workers, making them permanent employees and reducing the mountains of garbage at landfills."
