Bina gets passage to Phuket

Court made it clear that Ramani should return back to the country before April 3 and report to the investigating authorities.
Bina gets passage to Phuket
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Friday said before the Delhi High Court that socialite Bina Ramani is a strong suspect in the second FIR which has been registered in connection with the Jessica Lall murder case.
The court, however, permitted Bina Ramani to attend the wedding ceremony on the ground that Ramani has fully co-operated with the prosecution in the investigations so far and has been staying in India for a number of years.

But the court put forward a condition asking her to surrender the passports of her husband George Mailhot and daughter Malini Ramani and deposit a demand draft of Rs five lakh as surety.
The court also made it amply clear that Ramani should return back to the country before April 3 and report to the investigating authorities the next day.
Earlier, the counsel for Delhi Police Mukta Gupta informed the division Bench of Justice Manmohan Sarin and Justice Manju Goel that Bina Ramani was "not merely a witness but a strong suspect believed to have destroyed vital evidence and tampered with the scene of offence."
The Delhi Police strongly opposed Ramani's plea and urged the court not to give the permission. It said that Ramani was a foreign national with British passport and had been served with notices by the foreign registration officers for cancellation of her visa in 1999.

Gupta also alleged that George Mailhot was not Bina Ramani's legally wedded husband and antecedents of entire family were highly questionable besides claiming that no purpose would be served by her going to Phuket as the marriage ceremony will be over by Friday evening.
While granting the relief, the Bench directed the police to ensure there are no obstructions to Ramani's travel due to the look out notice issued against her.
