NEW DELHI: A motorcycle accident on the Barapullah elevated road left two youths dead and two others injured around 1.45 am on Tuesday. All four victims were on a Bajaj Discover motorcycle that skidded and hit the crash barrier on the road.
Police sources said the youths were not wearing helmets. The crash proved fatal for the rider, Mantu, and one of his pillions,
Rizwan .
Nitin and Ashish, the other pillions, had received only minor injuries.
Mantu, 17, was a resident of Dakshinpuri in south Delhi while Rizwan, 25, lived in Ghaziabad. "A passerby informed the police control room around 2am. The victims were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre," said a senior police officer.
Citing eyewitness accounts and circumstantial evidence, police said that the bike went out of control as it was speeding. "The speed at which the bike was going must have been very high as there were skid marks for about 50 metres at the spot," said a source.
The impact flung the riders in the air. Mantu landed in an eight-foot deep sewer and died on the spot while Rizwan landed in a bush across the road and was fatally injured. He died during treatment at AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Though the police termed the crash an accident , the families of the deceased alleged foul play.
Jamaluddin , Rizwan’s father, said, "Ashish called my son to come along, around midnight . He is all right while my son has died. There are no wounds on Rizwan’s body, nor any other sign of an accident. Police should question Ashish and Nitin."
Mantu’s father, Dilip, also said, "The cops say they found four bodies in different places - two on the road, and two on the other side. How could the bodies fly above the high railing?"
The police said they would not draw any conclusion regarding the cause of death of the victims without seeing the autopsy report.
