NEW DELHI: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed concern on Monday over the administration's response to the violence in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh.
She called the administration's "inaction" during the communal violence "unfortunate" and urged chief minister Yogi Adityanath to take strict action against those responsible.
Violence erupted in Mansoor village, Bahraich, on Sunday during a Durga idol immersion procession.
A disagreement over loudspeaker music led to clashes that resulted in one youth's death, injuries to half a dozen people, and the detention of 30 people.
On Monday, tensions escalated with crowds roaming the streets armed with sticks and iron rods, setting shops on fire.

Priyanka Gandhi posted on X in Hindi, "The news of violence in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh and the inaction of the administration are extremely sad and unfortunate."
She added, "I appeal to the chief minister of the state and the state administration to take immediate action, take the public into confidence and stop the violence. Strictest action should be taken against the culprits."
She also appealed to the public, "My humble appeal to the public is that please do not take the law into your own hands and maintain peace."
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has condemned the violence, asserting that the guilty will not be spared.
