New Delhi: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police has registered a case against BharatPe's former MD and co-founder Ashneer Grover and his wife, Madhuri Jain Grover, for an alleged fraud of Rs 81 crore committed last year, with some of their relatives also named in it.

The complaint, filed by BharatPe, alleged Grover and his family misused company funds through forged documents. Grover has denied the charges, saying he is "in the right".

In December, BharatPe had filed a civil suit as well as a criminal complaint with the EoW, which led to the FIR.

According to police, they received a complaint filed by Resilient Innovations Pvt Ltd (BharatPe). "Complainant alleged that Ashneer Grover (founder and ex-director of complainant's company), his wife Madhuri (Jain) Grover and other employees were involved in criminal misappropriation of company's funds on the basis of various forged, fabricated documents and resultant payments to non-existent firms, vendors and HR consultancy firms without rendering any services," Delhi Police said in a statement.

The FIR claimed that the embezzlement came to light after company carried out their internal investigation. The case has been registered under sections 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 408 (criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant), 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged) and 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy).

In a statement, BharatPe said: "We welcome the registration of an FIR.The registration of the FIR is a step in the right direction which unearths various suspicious transactions made by the family for their personal pecuniary gains."
