NEW DELHI: After conceding a shock defeat in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, AAP convenor and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday addressed his party workers and the people of Delhi, announcing that AAP would now take on the role of a constructive opposition.
"We accept the mandate of the people with great humility," Kejriwal said, acknowledging the BJP’s victory. “I congratulate the BJP for this victory, and I hope they will fulfill all the promises for which people have voted them.”
The defeat marked a significant blow for AAP, which had hoped to secure a fourth consecutive term in power. However, Kejriwal struck a positive tone, focusing on the work AAP had done over the last decade.
“We have done a lot of work in the fields of health, education, and infrastructure in the last 10 years,” he remarked.
Kejriwal thanked all AAP workers for their hard work and dedication during the campaign, saying, "We fought a good election." He expressed his gratitude for their tireless efforts despite the setback, and reaffirmed his commitment to public service.
"We will not only play the role of a constructive opposition but will also remain among the people and continue to serve them," he added.
