Sharing the ordeal that actor and

Rahul Vohra went through,

theatre

director

Arvind Gaur

tells us, “Rahul Vohra was depressed, dejected, but even when he predicted his own death the day before he passed away, made his last plea, it was clear that he expected that someone would help him. He expected us (people,

authorities

) to do better. We all failed him. His last words should haunt each one of us.” Rahul passed away on Sunday morning at a Delhi hospital after battling health complications due to COVID-19.

Rahul Vohra shared his COVID diagnosis on social media on May 4, and on Saturday (May 8), he wrote, “ab himmat haar chuka hu.” Rahul passed away on Sunday

On May 4, the actor had shared that he had tested COVID positive. He wrote on social media, “Main Covid Positive hu. Admit hu. Lagbhag 4 din se but koi recovery nahi. Kya koi aisa hospital hai ? Zaha oxygen bed mil jaaye ???? Kyunki yaha mera oxygen level continues down ja raha hai. Or koi dekhne wala nahi #delhi Main Bahut majboor hokar ye post kar raha hu, Kyunki ghawaale kuch sambhaal nahi paa rahe (sic).” Rahul, who was admitted at the Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital, Tahirpur, was shifted to Ayushman Hospital, Dwarka, on Saturday (May 8) evening. That day, one day before his death, Rahul wrote, “Mujhe bhi treatment acha mil jata, To main bhi bach jata tumhaara Rahul Vohra... Jald janam lunga or acha kaam karunga. Ab himmat haar chuka hu (sic),” adding details of his name, age, hospital etc.

Arvind Gaur, a theatre director, had trained Rahul as a theatre actor

, says that after seeing Rahul’s post on Saturday, he got in touch with his family and spoke to hospital authorities for an update on his health. “We were told that 95% of his lungs was infected and he had lost all hope. His post on Saturday was heartbreaking and shocking as Rahul was always positive and full of life. It was tough for all those who knew him, including me, to believe that he was giving up. I cannot speak about his medical health, but he lost his willpower. What saddens me the most is that we all disappointed him. We all are responsible for what he felt, uske saath bahut galat hua hai. After seeing his condition on Saturday, his family decided to move him to Ayushman Hospital in Dwarka,” says Gaur.

Gaur tells us that by the time Rahul was shifted to the other hospital on Saturday with more facilities, it was too late and his condition had deteriorated. “The isolation and his deteriorating health broke Rahul from inside. I got to know that he could not get high flow oxygen when he was hospitalised in the first week of May. I wish someone could have gauged his desperation to get better, his helplessness and had acted on his plea for help. He expected people to help him in time. The family was trying to get a hospital where he could get the treatment that he needed, but they took what was available and it was clear from his social media posts that it was not enough,” he says.

Rahul’s brother-in-law performed his last rites at a cremation ground in Dwarka. “We took the body around 10.30am and got a slot around afternoon. The pain I felt was unbearable and I screamed and cried. I’ve never felt as helpless as I do now and I am sure that now that we have lost Rahul, there are many others who did not even know Rahul but feel as helpless as I do,” says Gaur.

On Monday, Rahul’s wife Jyoti Tiwari shared a video on Instagram, in which Rahul can be seen talking about the condition he was in. He said in the video, “Iski (oxygen mask) bahut keemat hai aaj ke time mein... Bina iske mareez chhatpata jaata hai... (showing himself breathing through the mask) Kuch bhi nahi aa raha issmein... Yeh lagake kya karu mai?”
Jyoti wrote in her post, “Justice for every Rahul... Mera Rahul chala gaya ye sabko pata hai par kaise gaya ye kisi ko nahi pata. Ummeed karti hun mere pati ko insaaf milega. Ek aur Rahul is duniya se nhi Jana chahiye (sic).”
