NEW DELHI: This programme is meant to bring Delhiites closer to the Yamuna, literally. The Yamuna-Elbe : Public.Art.Outreach project plans to organize an art exhibition at Golden Jubilee Park on the Yamuna, and have a number of other programmes, including concerts, running parallel at other venues in the city.
Organized collectively by the City of Hamburg (through which the Elbe flows), Goethe-Institute of Max Mueller Bhavan and Delhi government, the project brings artists from Germany and India together to initiate a discussion on sustainability of river systems, environmental degradation and water pollution.
It’ll be on, offering what the organizers call “a river experience,” from November 9 to 23. The same exhibition was held in Hamburg between October 16 and 23.
Indian artists participating in the project include Atul Bhalla, Asim Waqif, Gigi Scaria and Sheba Chhachhi . Among the German artists are Nana Petzet, Jochen Laempert, Michael Clegg, Martin Guttmann and Ines Lechleitner. Atul Bhalla and Navjot Altaf were the two Indians featured at the Hamburg exhibition.
