Woman held for forging ID documents for jobseekers, says Delhi Police

NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old woman has been arrested for preparing forged identity documents, Delhi Police said on Wednesday. She duped people who wanted to go abroad for jobs. Tabassum Alvi of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, was caught after two Nepalese nationals were apprehended at the airport while attempting to fly to Cambodia using fraudulently obtained Indian passports.

According to police, Alvi was part of a larger network that facilitated the illegal entry of Nepalese citizens into India and then arranged for forged Aadhaar cards, voter IDs and Indian passports for them. "The two Nepalese nationals — Hastman Seling and Prabin Sawaden — entered India in 2023 by crossing the India-Nepal border and were promised lucrative job opportunities in Cambodia in exchange for Rs 10 lakh," said DCP (IGI airport) Usha Rangnani. "Alvi worked with her associates, Suban Subba and Anil Lama, who were arrested earlier," the DCP added.

Probe revealed that the Nepalese nationals were caught at IGI while attempting to board the flight to Cambodia. During a scrutiny of their travel documents, it was found that the Indian passports they possessed were fake. Hastman Seling and Prabin Sawaden disclosed that they were told by friends that they could not earn good money based on Nepalese passports. They were then introduced to an agent who assured them of arranging for Indian documents and sending them to Cambodia," Rangnani added.
