The police have registered a case of accident due to rash and negligent driving in Kalyanpuri police station, but no arrests have been made so far.
According to the police, the accident happened at around 11.15pm when an overspeeding Santro car hit the scooter near Chand Cinema. The rider was dragged by the car for 10 metres, leaving him seriously injured.
While the locals have alleged that the car driver was drunk, the police is still to confirm it. Interestingly, some passersby are said to have helped the police get custody of the car. Some locals followed the car till Sector 21 in Noida, where the driver dumped it before running away.
Commenting on the investigation, a senior police officer said, "Though we have got the car, the driver is still absconding. The car bears a Haryana registration number so we are trying to trace the owner, after which he will be asked to provide details of the driver."
Meanwhile, the seriously injured Wasim is fighting for his life at his home and not in a hospital. "Though he was initially taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital, he was referred to GTB hospital. However, despite his serious condition, he was discharged from GTB next morning. In spite of our repeated requests, the authorities said enough beds were not available and asked us to visit the OPD after two days. They even refused to refer my son to another hospital," said Mohammad Yasin, Wasim's father. The hospital authorities refused to comment on this.
While Wasim is a painter and resides in Trilokpuri, Wajid works as a mechanic and lives in the same locality. Wajid suffered from multiple injuries in his left leg during the accident and is supposed to undergo an operation in Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital. The pedestrian, Ajay Kumar (17), who was injured by the speeding car, is a resident of the same locality and is recovering at home. "Though my brother was discharged after first aid, it seems that he suffered some internal injuries because he has been lying in bed since Thursday morning and hasn't eaten anything," said Santosh Kumar, Ajay's brother.
