NEW DELHI: Lieutenant governor Anil Baijal has directed Delhi Police to ensure maximum deployment and visibility of patrol vehicles, especially after dark, to increase the sense of security among Delhiites. Senior officers of Delhi Police have also been asked to conduct surprise visits for reality checks.

Police commissioner Amulya Patnaik conducted one such visit in south Delhi to check the visibility of policemen at Barapullah flyover on Friday night.

LG Baijal had chaired a meeting of Delhi Police officers and reviewed strategies for prevention and detection of crimes during which a detailed presentation was made regarding the crime situation. The cops said their main focus areas are street crime, crime by use of fire arms, women safety, safety of vulnerable groups, action against desperate criminals, and checking of two-wheelers.

Baijal asked cops to prepare a detailed action plan for crime prevention and improving the perception and accessibility of police. The cops were directed to deploy police vans and patrolling bikes with sirens, especially after dark, so as to cover maximum area and also to instill a sense of security among people.
