VADODARA: If you are still coming to terms with fuel price hike, there is more bad news for you. Milk is set to become dearer nationwide as the Rs 8,000 crore Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) that markets the country's biggest food brand Amul, is set to increase prices of milk next week.
Managing directors of all 13 dairies of Gujarat met at the GCMMF headquarters in Anand on Friday and decided on the hike.

While full cream milk will be dearer in Delhi from July 4 by Rs 2 a litre (Amul had earlier hiked the prices on February 12 in Delhi), the prices in Gujarat will be raised soon after. Sources suggest that milk prices will increase in Gujarat on July 8.
``We have decided to increase the price of only one variety of milk - Amul Gold - in Delhi with effect from July 4. In Gujarat, prices of milk will increase in all the six varieties in the second week of July,'' a senior GCMMF official told TOI, adding that while prices of premium varieties of milk will be increased by Rs 2 per litre in Gujarat, in other varieties the prices will be increased by Re 1 per litre in the state.
In the Delhi market, where Amul has emerged as the biggest supplier of packaged milk, the federation had earlier raised price of Amul Gold by Rs 2 per litre whereas that of toned milk was increased by Re 1 per litre in February after which Amul Gold was sold at Rs 30 per litre whereas consumers were shelling out Rs 23 per litre for Amul Taaza. With the new price hike, residents of the national capital will have to shell out Rs 32 per litre for Amul Gold while prices of other varieties will remain the same.
Sources told TOI that this hike, which will be second this year after the federation increased prices in Gujarat on February 1, will give a bigger jolt to consumers as the federation will increase prices by Rs 2 per litre in some variants like Amul Gold and Amul Shakti. GCMMF officials had already termed the price revision, 11th since 2006, as imminent after the Centre revised prices of petrol and diesel. Although the federation had revised prices of milk thrice in 2009, this year, consumers will face a bigger jolt as the price hike is as much as Rs 2 per litre unlike in 2009 when the prices were hiked by Re 1 per litre.
After prices of milk were revised on February 1 by Rs 2 per litre in some variants and Re1 per litre in other variants, Amul Gold was sold at Rs 28 per litre whereas Amul Shakti and Amul tea special was sold at Rs 26 a litre in Gujarat. Similarly, Amul cow milk cost Rs 24 a litre, Amul Taaza Rs 23 whereas Amul slim and trim was priced at Rs 21.
