NEW DELHI: Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba has become the fifth

legislator to be disqualified from

Delhi assembly

under the anti-defection law in the past two months.

According to an order issued on Thursday, the disqualification takes effect from September 6, the day she announced on Twitter that she was quitting AAP and returning to Congress. Speaker Ram Niwas Goel took the decision on a petition by AAP’s Saurabh Bharadwaj.

Lamba told TOI, “I was called by the speaker on Wednesday and given time till Thursday 4pm to formally resign to which I said no. I also said I was ready to accept whatever decision he took on the petition.”

Stating that she will take the official membership of Congress soon, Lamba also hinted at the possibility of contesting from Chandni Chowk in the upcoming assembly elections. Lamba said she would continue to meet people of her constituency in front of the CM’s residence daily.
