Alka Lamba a drug addict: BJP MLA

BJP MLA OP Sharma on Monday kicked up a row terming AAP legislator Alka Lamba a "drug addict".
Alka Lamba a drug addict: BJP MLA
NEW DELHI: BJP MLA OP Sharma stirred up a controversy on Monday by calling AAP legislator Alka Lamba a “drug addict”. His accusations came a day after Lamba barged into a sweet shop owned by Sharma’s relative and vandalized it, an act that is surprisingly being justified by her party. Lamba has filed a complaint against Sharma in Delhi Commission for Women.
“Will you worship a woman who takes drugs everyday and throws peoples’ belongings about?” Sharma asked.

He later denied calling her a drug addict, but said she seemed drunk in the CCTV footage.
“Her injury seems to be a result of this incident. She tried to politicize the incident when she realized its consequences. She or any MLA doesn’t have any business to enter and vandalize a person’s house or shop. There will be consequences if she repeats it. No one will sit silently if their property is damaged,” said Sharma.
Reacting on Lamba’s complaint to the commission, Sharma said, “The DCW chief (Swati Maliwal) is an AAP member. She will definitely side with Lamba. I don’t have any hope from her.”

Meanwhile, AAP chose to defend Lamba’s actions despite video evidence showing that she had indulged in vandalism.
Senior AAP member Ashutosh said this was how anyone would react after being hit by a stone. “This could have potentially been fatal. Lamba lost her temper like anyone else. I agree she could have shown restraint, but why no action is has been initiated against those who threw the stone at her. The senior-most people in police are BJP representatives, so no action will be taken on our complaint,” he alleged.

Other senior members portrayed Lamba as the helpless victim whose actions were justified. “It is shocking that Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Lamba instead of taking action against the person who threw the stone at her. She was out on an anti-drug drive and in a dangerous situation. Despite police presence, someone managed to injure her and she was the one who got dragged to the police,” said a senior member.
Meanwhile, Lamba returned to the Hanuman Temple near Kashmere Gate again on Monday and administered a pledge to the addicts present there that they would abstain from taking drugs.
