Alert policeman foils snatchers in Delhi's Model Town area

NEW DELHI: A swift action by a Delhi Police official has not only averted a snatching incident in Model Town area of northwest Delhi but also led to the suspects' arrest.

The incident occurred on September 24, when two men on a two-wheeler snatched a woman's purse before speeding away, police said, adding ASI Ajay Jha had gone to the market around 5.10pm on Sunday when he noticed two men trying to flee.

"The CCTV footage showed him running towards the scooter and kicking it to prevent them from escaping. Suspects Mahesh and Sikander lost control and fell on the ground. The stolen purse was recovered, and the duo were apprehended." said the police.

While kicking the moving two-wheeler, the ASI fell on the ground and sustained a fracture in his hand. The police have posted a 39-second video, sharing the CCTV footage of the incident, on X.
