AI ethics a priority:SC judges to students at Bennett University

New Delhi: Cautioning lawyers against AI generating fake case citations in courts, Supreme Court Justice Rajesh Bindal urged them to curb frivolous litigation and reinforce the public's trust in the justice delivery system.Supreme Court Justices Bindal and Pankaj Mithal, addressed students at Bennett University's 3-day III CTIL–Bennett International Moot Court Competition (BIMCC) 2026. Justice Bindal was the chief guest at the formal commencement of the competition. He also spoke about how international trade law was increasingly becoming central to global economic stability and dispute resolution. BIMCC 2026 was held at Bennett University's Greater Noida campus from Feb 6 to 8 and was organised by Bennett University's School of Law in collaboration with Centre for Trade and Investment Law, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and the India Chair – WTO Chairs Programme.The total prize pool was Rs2,50,000. Jindal Global Law School was the winner of the three-day competition and Symbiosis Law School, Pune, was adjudged the runner-up. In his valedictory address, Justice Mithal stressed that "trade law is based on exchange and provides employment opportunities for the youth," but cautioned that in today's times, young people must uphold ethical values. "Law is not the art of speaking loudly, but the art of persuading effectively," Justice Mithal said. He further stated that "moot court competitions have brought courtrooms into classrooms, just as cinema has reached homes through television."The valedictory session was also attended by Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sasmit Patra, Prof. Henry GAO, Professor (Dr.) Ranbir Singh, Senior Professor (Dr.) V. K. Ahuja and Vineet Vij.
