Accused in cop's murder killed in shootout

NEW DELHI: An accused in the murder of Satish Dalal, a Delhi Police sub-inspector and Vijay Kumar Goswami, an informer, was shot in the early hours of Wednesday by a special cell team.
The encounter took place near the Sarai Kale Khan inter state bus terminal. The accused, Vinod, was declared dead at AIIMS at about 2 am on Wednesday.
A reward of Rs 30,000 had been declared on Vinod''s head on Tuesday itself.

He was reportedly absconding since the past month.
SI Dalal and Goswami were allegedly killed by Vinod and four others in the Mangolpuri area on March 5. The other accused had been arrested by the northwest district police on March 8.
"We had specific information that he would be coming towards the ISBT at Sarai Kale Khan. At about 1.10 am our team spotted him. When we tried to arrest him, he fired at the team and took shelter in a garbage dump. The team returned fire. He was taken to AIIMS but was declared dead there," said additional commissioner of police (special cell) Karnal Singh.
The encounter which lasted about 20 minutes took place near gate number one of the Sarai Kale Khan ISBT.

While Vinod fired seven rounds from his .9 mm pistol, the police fired 24 rounds in retaliation.
The police said that Vinod was involved in 17 other cases including those of attempt to murder, dacoity, robbery and was wanted under the Arms Act and NDPS Act. He had earlier been arrested under the National Security Act in 2000 and released in 2003.
SI Dalal (45) was posted in the anti-homicide wing of crime branch and had gone to carry out a raid along with informer Vijay Kumar Swami in connection with a robbery case of Mangolpuri area when they were killed.
Their headless bodies and severed heads were recovered from separate places on March 6.
