NEW DELHI: Chief minister Atishi launched a sharp attack on the BJP on Friday, demanding that the saffron party announce its chief ministerial candidate ahead of the upcoming Delhi assembly elections.

Referring to the BJP as the "Gali-Galoch Party," Atishi pointed out that it was widely known that Arvind Kejriwal would become chief minister if the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) retained power in Delhi. However, she claimed, the same clarity was missing in the BJP.

Waving a poster, Atishi claimed that the BJP had decided to pick a CM face based on who could hurl the most abuses — pointing to BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri as the likely candidate.

"Today, the entire city of Delhi is asking the 'Gali-Galoch Party' who their CM face is. The people of Delhi know that by voting for AAP, Arvind Kejriwal will become the CM, but they are asking who will be the BJP’s CM face," Atishi said.

"Through credible sources, we’ve learned that the BJP has decided that their CM candidate will be the leader who hurls the most abuses, and that’s Ramesh Bidhuri."

Atishi’s remarks came amid an ongoing war of words between her and Bidhuri, who is contesting against her in the Kalkaji constituency in the upcoming Delhi elections.

Earlier, Ramesh Bidhuri had made controversial comments, claiming that Atishi had "changed her father."

He remarked, "This Marlena (her surname before marriage) became Singh, changed her name. Kejriwal swore not to align with the corrupt Congress, but Marlena changed her father. Earlier she was Marlena, now she has become Singh. This shows their character."

Bidhuri, the BJP candidate for Kalkaji, also faced backlash for an inappropriate remark about constructing roads in his constituency as smooth as Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s "cheeks."

Initially, he defended his comments, but as the controversy grew, he expressed regret and retracted his statement.
