A gala reception for Sweden’s royal couple in Delhi

After spending their first day visiting Jama Masjid, Red Fort and paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden received a gala reception at Embassy of Sweden on Tuesday. The royal couple was seen interacting with the guests in the VIP area and enjoying the dinner at the reception. Their five day itinerary in India includes a trip to Mumbai and Uttarakhand.

Meeting the royals: ‘Are the royals here yet?’ and ‘Can we speak to them personally?’ – attendees were overheard asking each other. While no plastic was used in the reception, the food served was also mainly green. “It is an honour to have each one of you here today on the occasion of the state visit by our majesties, the King and the Queen of Sweden,” said Klas Molin, Swedish Ambassador.

Specials from Sweden: While the buffet and dessert counters had a mix of delicacies both the countries, guests also got the chance to try the traditional liquor from Sweden, which was being served with desserts. “I loved the strawberry tarts along with the traditional drink that they served,” shared Olga, a guest at the dinner.
Shivani Wazir Pasrich, who also attended the dinner, added, “It is larger than what I had expected. Sweeds think very personally. I went to Sweden with my group for a performance and had a lot of interaction with the people there. I am so taken by their culture of being so kind and caring whether it is for their artists, women or environment.”
