NEW DELHI: A 59-year-old builder, Harvinder Pal Singh, committed suicide by shooting himself inside his house at Vikaspuri in west Delhi. According to the police, Singh was living alone at his house for sometime. They said Singh was suffering from depression.
"We received information about the incident around 9.30 pm on Monday. We took him to DDU hospital where he was declared dead.
Prima facie, it seems internal household problems had forced Singh to take such a step. But, we will wait for the postmortem report before proceeding further,'' said Sharad Aggarwal (DCP), West.
Sources said the builder was sharing a drink on Monday evening with his friend Ajit and telling him about his life. "After sometime, Singh began to cry and left the room in a hurry. He went to his bedroom, picked up his loaded licensed revolver and shot himself on his temple. He died at the spot,'' said a senior police officer.
According to cops, Singh, whose property runs into lakhs was mainly based in Madhya Pradesh where his company was involved in the construction of buildings and roads. His two sons live in Chandigarh and his two daughters are married. "Singh was living alone after the death of his first wife. Since he felt lonely, he married a widow two-and-a-half years ago. But, after some time they began to have frequent arguments. Things reached to such a stage that his wife even lodged an FIR in August alleging that her husband was harassing her,'' said a police officer.
