The project details say that the remaining upgrades are expected to be completed in the next six to eight months.A senior NDMC official said the initiative reflects the council's commitment to ensuring equal access to civic infrastructure. "Public buildings must be designed and upgraded in a manner that enables independent access to all citizens. This initiative is a step towards making our civic spaces more inclusive and responsive to the needs of persons with disabilities." The estimated cost for upgrading the 19 buildings is approximately Rs 4.5 crore. The official added that the works are being carried out in accordance with prescribed accessibility standards and timelines are being monitored. The council has indicated that the initiative will not remain limited to select buildings. "The objective is to extend disability-friendly features across NDMC establishments, including markets, schools and community centres," the official said. The project involves the construction of wheelchair ramps, installation of Braille signage, laying of tactile tiles, and the provision of wider doorways to ensure smooth passage.
