NEW DELHI: Four men were left battling for their lives following two incidents of gang
war
in different parts of the city on Sunday. The first incident was reported from outer Delhi’s Ranhola during the early hours. The assailants, who came in a car, fired at least 11 rounds at their rivals, who were having food at a roadside eatery.
Police said they received a PCR call at 1.58am about some people sustaining gunshot injuries and being shifted to a hospital. When they reached the spot, the teams found a huge crowd and empty bullet shells on the road.
The injured, Deepak Mathur (24), Rahul alias Ravan (26) and Pradeep Singh (26), sustained multiple injuries. Based on their statements, the police registered a case for attempt to murder and related to sections of the Arms Act.
The victims told cops that they were having dinner at a dhaba on Nangloi-Najafgarh road. Around 1.30am, a car stopped next to them. The men in the vehicle fired indiscriminately at the victims. As they ducked for cover, the assailants continue to shoot at them and after
firing
around a dozen rounds, they sped away. The suspects drove towards Ranhola.
Even though the motive of the attack is still being investigated, sources said that the incident is a fallout of a rivalry between two local groups in the area and the teams are probing with the victims to ascertain if they had received any threats recently.
The CCTV footage from the spot is being analysed and cops are trying to identify the car that was used by the gang. The bullet shells have been sent for forensic examination.
In another incident, a man in northeast Delhi’s Seelampur was shot in the head by motorcyclists. Police said that the victim, Salman, runs a meat shop and was shot around 3am by two men.
Initial probe revealed that Salman was walking near his house when he was stopped by two men on a motorcycle. After a brief altercation, one of them shot at Salman from a close range. The bullet hit him in the head and he has been admitted to a hospital.
