Underpasses near completion

The long-awaited underpasses at Mukarba Chowk are set to open within days, with construction almost complete and finishing work in progress. The project aims to ease one of north Delhi’s most persistent traffic bottlenecks along the busy Outer Ring Road corridor. (AI image)

Three-tunnel design

The project includes three underpasses near gate no. 3 of Haiderpur Badli Mor metro station. Two are built for vehicular movement, while the third is dedicated to pedestrians and non-motorised transport, improving both traffic flow and safety. (AI image)

3/7

Major connectivity boost

The underpasses will improve connectivity between Badli village, Rohini sectors 18 and 19, Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, and Shalimar Bagh, eliminating the need for a 1.5km detour via the congested Mukarba Chowk flyover. (AI image)

4/7

Built for smooth traffic flow

Each vehicular underpass is around 50 metres long, 9.6 metres wide, and 6 metres high. Designed to accommodate a wide range of vehicles, the structures use advanced jack pushing technology and precast RCC boxes to minimise disruption. (AI image)

5/7

High traffic handling capacity

Officials estimate nearly 15,800 vehicles will use the underpasses, easing pressure on the interchange and flyover, especially during peak hours when traffic congestion often spills onto surrounding roads. (AI image)

6/7

Environmental & pedestrian gains

The project may save around 58,000 litres of fuel annually and reduce carbon emissions by 135 tonnes. A dedicated pedestrian underpass will also help metro users safely cross Outer Ring Road towards Shalimar Bagh and Azadpur Mandi. (AI image)

7/7

Reduced travel time & distance

The new corridor is expected to cut travel time by up to 10 minutes per trip and reduce distance by nearly one kilometre, benefiting daily commuters who currently navigate heavy congestion at Mukarba Chowk. (AI image)
