3 men pose as bank staff to dupe over 100, arrested
NEW DELHI: The crime branch has
Police said the gang would call the targets from Jharkhand and collect their account details on the pretext of renewing their credit/debit cards.
They would then use the details to fraudulently transfer money from their accounts. According to additional commissioner Rajiv Ranjan, the accused would load the money on their online wallets, which they opened by using fake IDs.
The cyber cell had been tracking the gang after a government official, P K Basu, filed a police complaint after being cheated of Rs 50,000 on July 8. The caller had claimed to be an employee of SBI and duped him into sharing his card details.
Cops analysed a series of transactions and sought information from payment wallets to track down the culprits. “During investigation, it was found that a man named Chandan Mandal had made a call to the complainant from his mobile from Jamtara, Jharkhand, and transferred amounts of Rs 19,990, Rs 10,000, 9,999 and 999 into four online wallets,” DCP (crime) Bhisham Singh said.
