NEW DELHI: Three armed men on a motorbike looted valuables worth Rs 28-30 lakh from a jewellery showroom in Samaypur Badli on Wednesday afternoon.

The bike-borne robbers fired in the air on their way out while crossing a crowded market. This is the third incident in six days when robbers have targeted jewellery shops.

No one has been arrested.

An employee of Shree Ram Jewellers told police that the robbers struck around 1.30pm when there were three customers in the showroom.

"We were showing jewellery items to customers when the robbers, wearing helmets, entered the showroom. They were carrying pistols," an employee said.

The gang told the customers to sit quietly, otherwise, they would be shot. "Then they pointed their pistols at us employees and told us to fill the bags with jewellery. We objected. They themselves started taking jewellery items kept in the showcases. In a few minutes, they had filled their bags," he said.

They went out of the shop and one of the men fired in the air to scare people, the employee said. The shop soon alerted the cops about the theft.

A video of the incident went viral on social media, in which all three accused were seen on a bike and one of them, sitting in the middle, was firing in the air. The incident took place in the crowded market area, where e-rickshaws and cars were moving.

Deputy commissioner of police (outer north) Ravi Kumar Singh said police had registered a case in this regard at Samaypur Badli police station. "The accused fled with 480 grams of jewellery from the showroom. We have formed multiple teams to crack the case," he said.

Police are scanning CCTV footage from cameras of nearby areas to check the route taken by the accused.

On Friday, four men robbed a jewellery shop in west Delhi's Vijay Vihar and fled with cash and jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh. An employee of the shop was held at gunpoint during the robbery.

Another incident was reported from the Bhogal area, where thieves targeted a showroom and fled with jewellery worth Rs 25 crore. No one has been arrested in either case.
