25-yr-old posed as IAF pilot, duped women by promising marriage; held

New Delhi: A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly duping women on the pretext of marriage by posing as the Indian Air Force pilot. Suspect Nitin Kumar Gaur, a resident of Bhola Nath Nagar, earlier worked at a shop in Chandni Chowk while his father was a vegetable vendor, police said.
DCP (Shahdara) Rohit Meena said that a woman complained of being scammed on social media. The complainant stated that she met one Sparsh Sharma online, who pretended to a pilot and proposed marriage. After gaining her trust, he started asking for money under the pretence of a frozen bank account due to technical issues. Believing him, the complainant transferred about Rs 11 lakh in 1.5 years.
When she demanded her money back, the suspect resorted to blackmail, threatening to share her number on obscene websites if she pursued, police said, adding that Nitin was nabbed from Shahdara and during investigation cops came to know that the suspect had cheated two more women.
Police said that Nitin created a social media profile in 2017, under the name "Sparsh Sharma", falsely claiming to be an IAF pilot. He began sending friend requests to women and proposed marriage to several of them.
After some women agreed to his proposal, Nitin claimed his bank account was frozen by IT department and asserted that he needed money to resolve the situation, added police .
