NEW DELHI: A male passenger, who arrived from Riyadh at Delhi airport on Sunday, was booked after he was found to have concealed gold worth Rs 22.2 lakhs in an adaptor. In another case, two men from UP were booked for hiding gold paste in undergarments. The gold, weighing 931.57 grams, was worth Rs 68.92 lakhs.
In the first incident, an Indian passenger concealed gold in an adaptor. "X-ray scans revealed two gold bars weighing 300 grams cleverly concealed inside an adaptor," said Delhi Customs on X. An official said the investigation is underway.
A video shared by a Customs official on X shows an official breaking the adaptor into pieces using a hammer, resulting in two gold bars.
In the second incident, Customs officers at IGI Airport intercepted the two men, who also arrived from Riyadh, based on intelligence. The men, aged 41 and 36 years, were found to have concealed gold paste hidden in undergarments with pockets. "Detailed searches revealed uneven pouches containing paste, from which 24 KT gold was extracted," said an official. The official added that the gold was seized under the Customs Act, 1962, and the two passengers were arrested.
