According to an officer, "The victim alleged that the teacher mentally harassed and raped her multiple times at the tuition centre from 2022 to 2025. The teacher threatened and emotionally blackmailed her."

Police said that a case under sections in BNS pertaining to punishment for rape as well as IPC and relevant sections of the POCSO Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

Pune bus rape case

The alleged rape of a 26-year-old woman inside a parked bus at Pune’s Swargate terminus has sparked disturbing comparisons with the 2012 Delhi bus rape and the 2024 rape-murder of a resident doctor in Kolkata. All three incidents involved brutal assaults in public or supposedly secure spaces, underscoring ongoing failures in ensuring women's safety.

The survivor, a preoperative counsellor at a Pune hospital, had arrived at the Swargate bus depot early Tuesday morning to catch a bus home when the accused approached her. He informed her that a bus nearby was available for early boarding. Trusting him, she entered the vehicle to check for seats, only for the man to follow her inside, lock the door, and assault her.

The bus had been parked overnight at the terminus, while the driver and conductor rested at the depot’s quarters. The accused, who has a criminal record with previous cases of theft and robbery, is currently on the run. Police are scanning CCTV footage and working with local networks to track him down.

Swargate, Pune’s busiest transport hub, witnesses a daily footfall of 60,000 passengers and 600 bus movements. A police station is located right opposite the terminus, raising serious questions about security lapses at the site.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
