More than a dozen people, including an Assistant Commissioner of Labour, were today arrested here for allegedly taking bribe and extorting money from businessmen.

NEW DELHI: More than a dozen people, including an Assistant Commissioner of Labour, were today arrested here for allegedly taking bribe and extorting money from businessmen.
The arrests came after a month long sting operation by Delhi government's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), which gathered audio and video evidences against the accused.
ACB conducted the operation following a complaint by small-time businessman in Connaught Place Shiv Kumar Tiwari, a senior official of the branch said.

According to Singh, various officials of NDMC, Labour and Police have been harassing him and fellow shopkeepers by confiscating goods and demanding money.
They (shopkeepers) were forced to pay sums ranging between Rs 500 and Rs 30,000 each as "protection money" on a monthly basis, Singh said in his complaint.
ACB's covert operation, which was recorded by the investigators, busted linkages of the accused officials and local "panwallahs" in the graft case, the official said.
Those arrested are Mahesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner (Labour), JE Bhupinder Singh, Inspector (Enforcement) Virender Kaushik, Inspectors (Health) P Meena and Naresh Sharma, Labour Inspectors Shiv Dayal and Sidhu Gopal, Kanta Prasad Valodi, inspector (Malaria and Sanitation), Ashwani Kumar, MI (Enforcement), storekeeper Lalit and Prem (Beldar), and Panwallah Chandeshwar Prasad Yadav.
