on Monday evening. They lit 1,000 diyas and organised Ram darbar, bhajan aarti and other colourful programmes.
"Residents living in and around the areas lit earthen oil lamps and celebrated the event just the way it is organised and celebrated in Banaras every year. For performing the aarti, priests were invited from Varanasi. People gathered in large numbers to celebrate the season of festivities," said Mukesh Agarwal, general secretary of Lake Area Residents' Association.
Naini lake, a water body located in the middle of Model Town area, is getting revived. The lake was degrading over a long period of time due to lack of maintenance. In September, initiative was taken for revival of the lake after Union minister and area MP Harsh Vardhan introduced a 'floating ecosystem' designed by Neeri in the dying lake and the North Delhi Municipal Corporation arranged for makeover of the complex.
