New Delhi: Ten people, including three women and a 5-year-old child, were rescued after a fire broke out among household items in a residential building in southeast Delhi’s New Friends Colony on Tuesday evening.
According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), a call regarding the blaze and people trapped inside was received at around 5.14 pm from the Taimoor Nagar area. A total of six fire tenders, along with around 35 fire personnel, were rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control by 5.45 pm.
Officials said the blaze erupted among domestic articles on the first floor of a four-storey residential building and quickly spread throughout the floor. The firefighters and local police from the New Friends Colony police station safely rescued all 10 occupants trapped on the first floor.
The rescued individuals have been identified as Suraj Singh (45), Ashok (42), Ram Naresh (40), Kishan Lal (38), Ram Kishan (35), Sachin (44), Tamanna (24), Priyansha (24), Sneha (22) and Ryansh (5). They are all members of the same family.
“The fire is believed to have started after a short circuit in the bathroom. They had kept garbage near the start point, which quickly caught fire,” a police officer said, adding that the family members rushed to the terrace and were rescued from the terraces of adjacent buildings. A police probe was initiated to confirm the exact cause of the fire.
