NEW DELHI: In Haridwar's Manglaur, a group of 'kanwariyas' vandalized an e-rickshaw and assaulted its driver after the vehicle accidentally collided with one of the pilgrims. The incident, which took place on Wednesday in the Libberhedi area under Mangalore Kotwali jurisdiction, was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media platforms.
Sanjay Kumar, the e-rickshaw driver, reported to Haridwar SSP Paramendra Singh Dobhal that although his vehicle had accidentally hit a kanwariya, "the pilgrim was not injured, nor was their sacred kanwar damaged." However, the group of kanwariyas attacked Kumar, "beating him with sticks and rods," and proceeded to vandalize his e-rickshaw.
Despite attempts by the police to intervene, the kanwariyas disregarded their warnings and persisted in their destructive actions. Kumar was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The police have taken notice of the incident and have registered a case against the unidentified kanwariyas involved. Efforts are currently underway to identify the individuals responsible for the attack and vandalism.
