villagers in the Varuna Valley of Uttarkashi are still struggling for basic amenities—specifically, a 2G network connection.
Uttarkashi: Agitated over lack of basic amenities, particularly absence of even 2G network, villagers from Varuna valley staged a sit-in at the collectorate on Monday. They said despite the presence of a BSNL tower, the network remains non-functional, leaving residents unable to make phone calls.
“In this era of 5G, we are left yearning even for a basic 2G connection,” they said.
Apart from network issues, lack of proper roads continues to affect the region. Construction of the approved motor road connecting Uparikot to Sthanachatti has not begun despite completion of administrative formalities, leaving several villages cut off.
Villagers alleged that despite repeated demands and representations, the administration has not taken concrete action. They had issued an ultimatum seeking action by April 12, but with no response, they launched the protest.
They said the sit-in will continue and the agitation will be intensified until steps are taken to restore network connectivity and begin road construction.
