A massive avalanche hit an Army project site near Mana village, close to the India-China border in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.

Ongoing search efforts

DM Chamoli, Sandeep Tiwari, said the rescue operation is ongoing, with most workers rescued and receiving treatment. If weather permits, efforts will focus on reopening the road to Badrinath.

Rain and snowfall disrupted rescue efforts on Friday, forcing authorities to suspend operations overnight.

As weather improved on Saturday, helicopters were deployed to aid rescue teams in locating and evacuating trapped workers.

Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel stationed in Mana resumed rescue operations early Saturday morning.

Critical patients airlifted

Three labourers, rescued in critical condition on Friday, were transferred from ITBP hospital to Jyotirmath Army Hospital.

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami visited Chamoli for a field inspection of rescue efforts following the avalanche that trapped several labourers.

Trapped workers belong to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir, per official list.

Over 65 personnel, including disaster management teams, are actively engaged in rescue operations at 3,200-metre-high Mana village.
